The more you read, the better you read! Who wouldn't want to read in these classrooms?
As I read this week's reading, I really thought a lot about how important time spent reading is. Cunningham and Allington (2011) posit that children in the most effective classrooms do a lot of reading. Not just reading, but exciting and engaging reading. In fact, Nagy and Anderson (1984) mentioned that good readers read almost ten times as many words as poor readers during the school day! It seems having an engaging environment conducive to reading would really help encourage and engage students to read. What else can teachers do to encourage children to read a lot?
Hey, cool!!
